Your Event Should Be Remembered -Photos by Christopher Wells

Whether you are hosting a birthday or a corporate event, the photographer is responsible how people will remember their time. It’s always a good idea to have both candid and posed shots taken at your event but candid shots, when captured right are the most fun to look at. Posed shots are great and necessary because you may need to use them for marketing, PR, social media, your website, etc. but not necessarily as much fun as a good candid.

For corporate events there is a certain level of professionalism and sophistication that has to be showcased at all times, especially if it’s a conservative institution. I’m talking PC here. Now, that doesn’t mean the images have to be boring. People who work for company’s and corporations like to have fun too and that level of fun should be captured as well. I’m of course not talking about keg stands but the kind of wholesome fun that is expected to be shown.

In this blog I wanted to show some candid shots that I captured at a corporate event or at least an event where the people were working professionals.

I captured this at an event I was shooting in the Hamptons. This lady was having a this moment and I’m so happy I was able to capture it. The way the light is hitting the wood floor. It’s a well balanced photo. The open door makes a huge difference in this photo, if it was closed this photograph wouldn’t be as powerful. What is she thinking? Well for one thing she’s enjoying herself and that’s another reason why I like this photo so much. It’s just a beautiful moment, the way she’s standing there with her arms fanned out enjoying the view, taking it in.

I only shoot weddings for couples who want me to capture moments instead of taking a thousand posed shots that don’t say anything about their special day. This is a beautiful moment between the newlyweds that a will be remembered. I love how we can see her smile while her new husband spins her around on this NYC rooftop. The background isn’t straight and that makes the photo even better because it shows moment. Her hair in her face also shows moment which is fun to look at and adds a special something to this photo. I used a slow shutter to get that blur effect, if this was crystal clear the photo wouldn’t work nearly as it does.

This photograph captures the excitement and exuberance of the night. Her smile is the first thing I see, her partners fist pumping in the air, the crowd cheering them on all make this a really fun photograph to look at. It’s a good time, a good vibe and the moment is this right here. I love this moment.

This photo always makes me laugh. I’m not sure why they’re laughing at the balloons but I’m glad I was able to capture it. This was at a private house party with a group of very nice professionals. I saw these two guys playing with the balloons and the balloons escaped somehow and they thought it was funny, so did I.

I love leaving my shutter open so I can capture all these beautiful and amazing lights that just add so much to a photo. And I want to eat whatever that is. This photo shows the vibe of this event I was shooting. It’s fun, it’s funny and everyone is having a great time. The lights magnifies the good vibes and that’s another reason why I love this photograph so much. The way it’s cropped also is everything. If this was any higher or lower this wouldn’t be as great and fun to look at.

This event was a lot of fun, very sophisticated . Again why this photo works is because of the slow shutter speed. Who wants to look at a bunch of people looking at art? Well now you do. The slight blur and glow of the walls and ceiling brings a level of cool that makes the onlooker want to examine the photo more. The lady in the middle, the guy standing next to her are having some sort of thoughtful soft conversation. The way she’s off balance leaning to the right says she’s really looking at the artwork and I appreciate that because I love art. You can almost hear what the couple are saying. It’s very pleasant.

Okay so this is a poster I made and shot for a marketing company who’s client was Tom Shoes. I wanted to show a variety of some of the shots I take at an event like this. It was a chill occasion with nice low light so that’s the vibe I wanted to capture. There is a warmth to this. I also like that some of the images are black and white. A good mix.

I was shooting NYFW and for certain private parties I was hired to shoot for. NYFW can be a lot of work but it’s always a good time and when I’m hired to shoot for a private party they want the photographs to be exciting. I love leaving my shutter open for an extended period of time to get the swirly lights to give it that special touch. This photo is fun and captures the night perfectly.
