October is Horror Movie Night

Halloween is canceled but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a horror fun night. My whole life I’ve been watching all sorts of horror films, from the Nosferatu to Killer Klowns from Outer Space, along with major crushes on Elvira, Mrs. Munster. Horror has always been some sort of comfort from cheesy to insane blood baths I’ve always seemed to like the stories that brought me off the beaten path.

And every October I am so happy, full of nightmarish ideas that fill my head prompting my screenwriting fingers to quickly fumble over my keyboard. These ideas just flow and sometimes I feel like I’m watching myself write, not sure how I think this way. I’m a pretty nice guy and yet I’m writing some pretty fucked up horror shit that’s not nice at all- to the characters I mean. Why am I not writing about dogs and cats and raising a beer for a cheers? Why does my mind go to the dark corner where the screams can be heard? How fucked up am I?

Having said that I always like to have some social commentary in my films. In my latest short film “Elimination Strain” I am actually taking a shot at conspiracy theorists. This is going to be a really fun film I’m really proud of this one and I look forward to seeing what happens with it in the next couple of months. Fingers crossed, I’ll let you all know what I’m talking about in November.

For The Luring, I wanted to say something about relationships and how we don’t listen to our gut and that leaves us vulnerable to manipulation and in this case, murdered. We lose sight of ourselves, forget who we are and who we deserve to be with. I wanted to say something about revenge, dominance and submission; how some people can be so one way with us and a completely a different way with someone else. How fantasy can get us in trouble. And I love embracing weird shit so I have some of that in my film as well. We all could do with a little more weird. Horror in general is weird because it’s bad things happening to others- shoudn’t we all just watch movies about dogs and cats…oh I already….

Happy October, Halloween may be canceled in the typical sense but don’t let that stop you. There are always horror films to watch. kind of like when we were kids. And yes, every night in October is horror movie night.
