Two Good Fashion Photos by Christopher Wells

I wanted to have some cool movement in the background that would add to the image of this model without distracting the viewer. The background is a photo I took at a completely different time and put it in post. If you notice the tones both on the model and in the background totally work together as well as the position of the lights equal to the position of her face gives off a good eye-line so the viewer is guided to look first at the model then at the swoosh of lights. Having a good eye-line is important.

Originally the designer and I came up with the idea that these 2 girls got caught smoking in the back stairway but one of the models said she didn’t want to hold a cigarette because one of her family members died from smoking so I had to think fast.

So I came up with the idea to have one of the models stretch out her leg and arm like an alien to give some sort of fun reaction similar to the smoking reaction I was going for. The model we barely see was getting ready for another set up and was more than happy to let us use her body parts and thought the idea was brilliant. As a filmmaker I always have to think fast and this is where my experience came in handy. I enjoy this shot and the client was very happy with the end result.

I hope you like these 2 little stories about these photos I took. I think the creative process is a lot of fun and and interesting. In the first photo I wanted to create movement where the second one I wanted to create a reaction within the photograph. Both images work for different reasons. -Christopher Wells
