Some Tips on What Makes a Great Video Testimonial by Christopher Wells
Two cameras are better than one when you're doing a testimonial video. It gives the video a higher production value and it allows our editor to cut out flubbed lines rather than using a jump cut. Here is one example of how we used a 2 camera set up for our show Good Question. Notice how we cut from camera A (head on) to camera B (from the side).
Aside from having good quality sound (a must) and good lighting (also a must) it doesn’t hurt to have good production design as well. For Good Question we shot this in a studio and dressed the set to feel airy and comfortable. We also shot with a shallow depth of field to give it a really nice professional look. All these elements make for a better video but nothing, and I mean nothing beats a good script.
But this is a testimonial, how is this a script? Well, if you don’t have thought provoking questions that brings out the best then you wont have genuine answers.
Now above I said 2 cameras are better than one but sometimes you can’t have 2 cameras for whatever reason. The question is, can you still have an impactful video? Yes! If you have a great script (great questions) with passionate people then a 1 camera set up can work but it just means it’s a little more work for the director to make sure the video looks good since you don’t have the other camera to cut to.
Here is a great example I did for Candlelighters NYC an amazing organization.
