I hope everyone has an amazing 4th of July weekend! Thank you all for the support by watching my film The Luring, I appreciate it very much.
As a kid I watched a short French film called The Red Balloon which was a major influence for The Luring. I of course used poetic license and made my red balloon have a unique backstory but as a kid watching that film I felt there was something about that damn balloon..lol And it stuck with me. When I had the opportunity to direct my own feature I remembered that feeling and somehow implement that into the script.
I also used elements from a short film I did called Cynthia and implemented them into my script for The Luring. Cynthia was a successful short psychological thriller I did that has over 600,000 views on my YouTube channel and cost me 2k to produce. That story, much like The Luring deals with a dysfunctional one sided relationship where the male character thinks the grass is greener on the other side. Unfortunately I've seen a few of my female friends allow their asshole boyfriends or husbands treat them less than the queen they are so as an artist I wanted to tell a story about that part of reality. Rarely do I see that in film. I also wanted to show the strength of women as well and that is why I have some sort of satisfying justice or outcome. Being that The Luring is a thriller, no one is safe and I of course hate producing anything that is predictable.
